UPHOLSTERY TRADE IN SINGAPORE
APRIL 2017 / SINGAPORE
Years before large international brands like IKEA and online stores revolutionized the consumption of furniture in Singapore, local upholstery businesses like L.Y.H Home Furnishing were at their prime. Mr. Leong Yat Hong, who has been in the industry since he took on an apprenticeship at just the age of thirteen, is one of the many early practitioners in the field who are now experiencing the shift in the modern market.
Lentor Stream sits quietly in the dense vegetation of the Tagore Forest. Over the years, it has remained untouched, unseen, and unheard of by the vast majority of Singaporeans. Unfortunately, rapid urbanization of the city-state has recently called upon the clearance of this natural green space to be used for future developments of condominiums. Aside from losing its scenic value and its rich biodiversity that includes critically endangered and vulnerable species, Singapore has yet again to lose another landmass of wild greenery.
