While he has delegated all the factory work to his three sons, Mr. Leong still does a lot of the sewing on his own. | Many of his fabrics are imported from Indonesia by a local supplier who only distributes them to a selected number of upholstery businesses in Singapore. | According to Mr. Leong, his business is no longer doing as well as it used to. Having been in the industry since the age of 13, he has witness the drastic shift in the market over the years. It is only a matter of time before larger international brands and online stores wipe out smaller businesses in his trade. |
When asked about his thoughts on the future of upholstery businesses in Singapore, Mr. Leong answers with little hope. But despite the decline, he still wishes to continue operating his shop for as long as he can because it is his one true passion. |
